PUBLIC Service

Every bike needs some TLC from time to time, so we set up some PUBLIC specific service packages in order to help keep your bike in shape and to help make your rides enjoyable, safe and fun. Below are our recommended service options.

If you have any questions or are unsure of your bike needs, stop by one of our retail stores and our mechanics will assess and service your bike to keep you rolling.

Standard Tune-Up

Recommended every 3-6 months - $75

Is your bike squeaking, creaking or just not working the same as when it was new? If so, our standard tune-up would be the best service option for you. Depending on the frequency which you ride your bike and in what conditions, we recommend this level of service every 3-6 months in order to keep you and your bike happy and riding free.

PUBLIC Service League Nitty Gritty

Memberships are PER BIKE, not per customer. The plan is annually renewing. All service, except flat fixes, will be scheduled into the service center’s existing schedule queue. We cannot guarantee turnaround time nor a service appointment at the desired date and time. Once a service appointment is made with store staff, bring your bike in at the agreed upon time and service will be performed. You will be contacted after service is complete. A service membership covers the preventative labor outlined under our Standard Tune-Up only. A Service membership does not mean you won't have any service costs. Please refer to our service department for other services available and their costs. Service plans are only valid on PUBLIC bicycles and at PUBLIC Bikes retail stores with service centers.

Memberships do not cover components required to keep your bike running safely. Nor does it always cover labor to install parts. Service memberships do not include non-routine repairs such as repairs for damage from a crash, repairs for vandalism, or repairs due to misuse or lack of maintenance. Service memberships are not a warranty and do not replace or supersede the manufacturer’s warranty.

We have partnered with Better World Club (BWC) to offer their unique roadside assistance plan for bikes.

  • BWC offers 24/7 roadside assistance within urban areas. Get a flat you can’t fix? Forget your pump? BWC help is just a phone call away: 1-866-732-1427
  • For complete details visit Better Worldclub Roadside Assistance.
  • The BWC service is an extra $39.95 to the Standard Service Membership Plan.
  • 24/7 roadside assistance is facilitated by BWC and its contractors.

Does My New PUBLIC Bike Come With Any Free Service?

Yes! If you bought your new PUBLIC bike from one of our PUBLIC retail stores, we highly recommend bringing it back after 30 days for a complimentary check-up. It's always a good idea to re-adjust a new bike after its first few weeks on the road, and an early check-up allows us to catch any minor issues before they become too serious. (But if you miss your 30 day free check-up, we may have to charge the cost of a standard tune-up once your bike has accumulated weeks or months of additional wear and tear. Or, ask a sales associate how you can become a member of our PUBLIC Service League.)

When Can I Drop My Bike Off?

Our service department is open every day. We encourage you to call ahead and book an appointment, and walk-in service is also welcome. If your bike needs something bigger than a quick adjustment, our mechanics will thoroughly assess your bike and schedule your bike for the next available service slot. Feel free to give us a call as we can often diagnose your issue over the phone.

How Long Will It Take?

If you have made a service appointment, we offer same day turnaround by 5pm. Walk-in assessment and service is always welcome, but is scheduled on a first-come first-served basis. Many walk-in service jobs can be completed by the end of the day. Our mechanics will give you a time and cost estimate after inspecting your bike. Please note that tune-up level jobs are only completed on weekdays.

Can I Drop In And Leave My Bike With You?

Absolutely. You can drop off your bike at a time that is convenient for you, and we will give you a call when it is ready to pick up! Depending on the level of service required and the daily workflow, we can typically turn your bike around no later than 5pm the next day.

Where Can I Drop My Bike Off?

Currently we provide service in our Seattle, San Francisco, and Santa Monica store locations.

If you're in Portland or any other city, we recommend visiting one of our PUBLIC Dealers for service, or another reputable bike shop in your area. PUBLIC bikes use only high quality, industry standard components that are easily serviced by any professional bike mechanic.

Will You Fix My Bike Even If It's Not A PUBLIC?

We are only equipped to service PUBLIC bikes. However, we can help you air up tires on most any kind of bike.
